In addition to that article, my own point of view is that Nintendo has intentionnaly made it easy to make a modchip for the Wii. The console was released about Christmas (a important date for this kind of product) and the compagny had to confirm its leadership on the market as Sony was late with the PS3. If you look carefully, all test pads on the motherboard were grouped and the ones who were needed for modchips were even more closed together ! Soldering a modchip is done in 5 minutes and doesn't need to be very skilled ! In comparision to that, soldering a PSP or a PS3 modchip is very hard and needs more skills, modchips are also more complexed.

Today we can see that Nintendo is doing a U-turn by hiding firmware upgrades on official games to break the modified consoles. But it's already done for you ! You have bought the console, some games. Ok, you planned to use game copies for some games, but now ? You have just 2 solutions => 1/ waiting a solution from the modchip scene or 2/ remove the modchip and buy the warez games you like to keep playing !

All this makes me believe they did it in purpose and the ability to upgrade the firmware while loading an original game was clearly thought before putting the first Wii on the market.
Sometimes, if you want to win a war, you have to deal with the dark side for a while :-)

Very interesting article.
For PS3 "Theoretical" game size, it seems like access time for BDR is too slow and developers have a lot of difficulties using the whole BDR size.
