Microsoft have released the RC of its Entreprise search v2008 software. A free version (the express one) is available but restricted to a single server. It is based on the sharepoint 2007 software. Price for the microsoft solution remains unknown. See the annoucement here :Enterprise Search from Microsoft. Microsoft is not the first to offers search engine for enterprise. Google is already on the market with Google Mini and Google appliance.

IBM and Yahoo have also a product called IBM Omnifind Yahoo! which is free. It is tailored to search up to 500 000 documents. I found the welcome message leaved by the team on their blog to Microsoft to welcome them on the market is pretty funny.

ZoomInfo a search engine for people

Google never cease to add new searchable things: articles and books (google scholar), blog, news … But one thing is still not searchable : people. When you do a background check on someone or just want to find you 5th grade school buddy, google is not that helpful. I always wanted to have a search engine for people. Well I was pretty astonished when I tried  ZoomInfo.com This site does exactly this. At first I thought it was linkedin like but no I crawl the web and extract people information. I tried it on a couple of people I know and it work very well. Thus this is a site that you should try and bookmark right away.
